'New Moon' tops $200M in eight days

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- The U.S. vampire movie "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" earned more than $200 million during its first eight days of release, figures show.

Variety.com reported Friday that "New Moon," which opened nationwide Nov. 20, has earned estimated $206.1 million to date, despite losing out to "The Blind Side" in Thanksgiving Day ticket sales.

After "Blind Side" grabbed the top spot for the holiday, "New Moon" roared back to first Friday thanks to earning $17.9 million at 4,042 theaters.

Variety.com said "Blind Side" has earned $76.3 million domestically to date.
