NEW YORK, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- An exhibition celebrating the work of filmmaker and artist Tim Burton is set to open at New York's Museum of Modern Art, said Syfy, the event's lead sponsor.
Scheduled to open Sunday and run through April 26, the exhibition brings together more than 700 examples of rarely or never-before-seen drawings, paintings, photographs, storyboards, moving-image works, puppets, maquettes, costumes and cinematic ephemera, and includes an extensive film series spanning Burton's 27-year career, the science-fiction network Syfy said in a news release.
"Mr. Burton's extraordinary genius is evident on all that he creates and his unique vision and perspective are reflected in a practically unrivaled array of projects," Syfy President Dave Howe said in a statement Tuesday. "Syfy's tagline 'Imagine Greater' inherently challenges our viewers to allow their minds to break free of convention and venture without limit. Tim Burton is an artist who truly exemplifies this sentiment. We applaud MoMA for organizing this exhibition and feel privileged to add our enthusiasm for the collective works of Tim Burton."
Burton's films include "Beetlejuice," "Batman," "Edward Scissorhands," "Ed Wood," "The Nightmare Before Christmas," "Corpse Bride," "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Sweeney Todd."
