'This Is It' opens with $20.1M worldwide

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- The Michael Jackson film "This Is It" grossed $20.1 million worldwide when it opened this week, Variety reported.

Comprised of footage showing the pop icon rehearsing on stage before he died June 25, the film officially opened Wednesday after advance screenings Tuesday night.

Variety said it grossed $7.4 million from 3,481North American theaters, including $2.2 million from the Tuesday night shows.

"This Is It" also earned $12.7 million in 97 international territories, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said Thursday.
