LOS ANGELES, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie is in talks to play a woman convicted of plotting to kill her ex-husband, the heir to the Gucci fashion house and fortune.

Variety said Ridley Scott is to direct the film, which Fox 2000 is planning to start production on next year.

Jolie is up for the role of Patrizia Gucci and the entertainment industry trade newspaper said Scott has spoken to his "Body of Lies" star Leonardo DiCaprio about possibly playing Patrizia's estranged spouse, Maurizio Gucci, who was fatally shot in 1995.

Patrizia was sentenced to 29 years in prison for arranging the slaying.
