SANTA MONICA, Calif., Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Actor Randy Quaid and his wife, Evi, did not appear Monday at their arraignment on burglary and other charges in Santa Barbara, Calif., officials said.
The couple were arrested last month in Texas and charged with burglary, conspiracy and defrauding an innkeeper after they allegedly ran up a bill at California's San Ysidro Ranch and then left without paying.
They reportedly paid the hotel about $5,000 shortly after the warrant was issued for their arrests and then squared the balance after their arrest.
"It was on calendar today to see if they wanted to voluntarily appear," Santa Barbara District Attorney's Office spokesman Lee Carter told E! News. "They didn't show up. The warrant in California remains outstanding; the District Attorney's Office will start preparing the extradition (from Texas) paperwork."
E! News said the couple, who reportedly have a home in Texas, hired a new attorney, who has requested the arraignment be rescheduled for next Monday.
Randy Quaid, 58 -- the brother of actor Dennis Quaid -- is a former cast member on "Saturday Night Live," whose big-screen credits include the "National Lampoon Vacation" movies, "The Paper," "Kingpin" and "Brokeback Mountain." He was nominated for a supporting actor Oscar for "The Last Detail."
