'Rabbit' on Oscar documentary short list

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences says "Rabbit a la Berlin" from Poland's Bartosz Konopka is a finalist for best documentary.

Variety reported Friday that "Rabbit" is joined on the short list by "China's Unnatural Disaster: The Tears of Sichuan Province," "The Last Truck: Closing of a GM Plant," "Music by Prudence" and "Women Rebel."

The best documentary short list is rounded out with "The Last Campaign of Governor Booth Gardner," "Lt. Watada" and "Tell Them Anything You Want: A Portrait of Maurice Sendak."

Academy judges picked the eight documentaries from among 37 eligible entries and will further shorten their list to three to five.

Variety said academy officials will unveil all of their nominations for the 82nd annual Academy Awards Feb. 2.

The awards ceremony will take place March 7 at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles.
