NEW YORK, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Hollywood actor Woody Harrelson says he bears little resemblance in real life to the gun-toting monster killer he plays in the blockbuster, "Zombieland."
The big-screen horror-comedy was No. 1 at the box office when it opened last weekend.
"I'm a pacifist. I don't like killing, even zombies, really," Harrelson, who has also starred in "No Country For Old Men" and "Natural Born Killers," told reporters in New York recently. "I'm a peaceable guy. I just hang out in my bathing suit in Maui and spend a lot of time in the ocean with my kids and stuff."
Asked why he thinks zombies and films about them are so popular now, Harrelson quipped: "I think we all know where we're headed as a society; we can see the future. The writing is on the wall."
The actor went on to say he's not generally a big fan of scary movies himself.
"I don't usually watch them, but I did think that '28 Days Later' was incredible. I couldn't sleep for a long time, so it was effective. But I usually don't watch horror films because I get spooked. I only watched that one because Danny Boyle directed it," said Harrelson, who got his big acting break playing kind-hearted bartender Woody Boyd on TV's "Cheers."
