LOS ANGELES, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- British-born screen icon Elizabeth Taylor has announced via Twitter that she is to undergo a procedure on her heart.

"It's very new and involves repairing my leaky valve using a clip device, without open heart surgery, so that my heart will function better," CNN quoted the 77-year-old actress as tweeting Tuesday. "Any prayers you happen to have lying around I would dearly appreciate. I'll let you know when it's all over. Love you, Elizabeth."

The two-time Oscar-winning actress did not say when or where the procedure is to be performed.

Taylor's movie credits include "National Velvet," "Giant," "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," "Butterfield 8" and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?"
