LOS ANGELES, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Film actor and director Mel Gibson's high-profile 2006 drunken driving arrest in Malibu, Calif., has been expunged from his record, officials said.

TMZ reported that Judge Lawrence Mira approved a request made last month by Gibson's attorney to have the arrest removed from the celebrity's file.

The request was granted because Gibson successfully completed the terms of his three-year probation, the entertainment news Web site said.

The "Braveheart" actor-director and "Lethal Weapon" star made headlines when he was arrested in July 2006 and made anti-Semitic remarks to a police officer. He publicly apologized afterward for his behavior.
