LOS ANGELES, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Spanish film stars Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem have gotten engaged, a source told Usmagazine.com.

The couple met on the set of the 1992 movie, "Jamon, Jamon," but didn't start dating until 2007, the report said. They co-starred in last year's "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," which earned Cruz an Oscar for best supporting actress.

Bardem won his best supporting actor Academy Award for his work in the 2007 movie, "No Country for Old Men." He was nominated for a best actor Oscar for the 2000 film, "Before Night Falls" and Cruz was nominated for a best actress Oscar for the 2006 film, "Volver."

"They tried to keep it very private and quiet," the insider told Usmagazine.com about the pair's betrothal.

Rumors that Cruz is pregnant have swirled for months, but the actress has denied the reports.
