Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Pop star Justin Bieber visited victims of Typhoon Haiyan that devastated the Philippines last month, killing nearly 6,000 people and leaving more than 1,700 missing.

Bieber, 19, visited an elementary school being used as an evacuation center.

"It was like we were not hit by the typhoon, like Yolanda never came," said one girl to Manila's TV5 Television. Typhoon Haiyan is known as Yolanda in the Philippines.

Alicia Keys and Black Eyed Peas member Apl de Ap have also visited storm survivors.

“I’m looking for you guys to help me help them,” Bieber said in a video message to fans, asking them to contribute to relief agencies. "This is something I’ve never done before, and I’m so excited to hang out with one of my Beliebers.”
