The Toronto International Film Festival opened this weekend with the likes of Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth stepping out on the red carpet in support of their films.

Kidman and Firth were on hand for a screening of their war drama, "The Railway Man," Friday. Also in attendance was the film's director, Jonathan Teplitzky.

Brad Pitt made a surprise appearance Friday for a screening of "12 Years a Slave," for which he starred and produced, the CBC said.
