"Reality TV" tropes have become so familiar, that NBC's new series looks convincingly like a reality competition -- from the production value to the oddball cast of stereotyped characters to confessional interviews. But it's actually a "Lost"-meets-"Survivor" thriller about a group of reality show contestants who try to survive Siberia's harsh winter to claim a large cash prize.
The New York Post points out that "Siberia" actually uses the real names of its actors, most of whom are unrecognizable working actors and Z-list celebrities.
As Entertainment Weekly writes, "'Siberia' proves that it’s getting harder to tell the difference between a “real” show and a scripted one."
"Siberia" airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
