Ian McKellen films final scene as Gandalf

Ian McKellen has been playing Gandalf in Peter Jackson's of J.R.R. Tolkein-inspired series of movies for more than a decade, but Friday marked his last scene as the old wizard.

The 74-year-old appeared in the three "Lord of the Rings" films and their prequel, "The Hobbit" trilogy.

Jackson is wrapping up shooting the final installment of the more recent trilogy and posted a photograph of himself and McKellen as Gandalf after the actor's last scene, MSN reported.

"Seconds ago we finished our last shot with Gandalf. The end of an incredible adventure that began in 1999. I'm feeling very sad right now," he posted along with the photograph.
