Canales told Refinery 29 he had styled the British supermodel's hair during the shoot, due to come out in January, just in time for the magazine's 60th anniversary and Moss's 40th birthday.
In addition, the New York Post reported fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot shot Moss for the issue.
Playboy officials said they had no comment "one way or another" about the shoot and Moss's reps couldn't be reached for comment.
