June 11 (UPI) -- A 2008 video of Shia LaBeouf shows that he may have been right all along.

Edward Snowden, a former computer security administrator for the CIA, came forward to out himself as the source of documents describing NSA surveillance activities. Snowden is hiding out in Hong Kong and has gotten most of the attention for blowing the whistle on questionable surveillance practices.

Shia LaBeouf tried to warn us long before, though, in an interview with Jay Leno on the "Tonight Show."

"He [an FBI consultant] told me that one in five phone calls which you make are recorded and logged," LaBeouf told Leno. "And I laughed at him, and then he played back a phone conversation I had had two years prior to joining the picture [Eagle Eye]... And it was one of those 'What are you wearing?' kind of things."

Granted, the details about phone data collection were released in 2006. But the extent of the recordings and their potential use had not been leaked until recent reports.

LaBeouf had these conversations with the consultant before filming the movie to get his role just right, and he was told about the inner workings of the government.

“I remember talking to an FBI consultant telling me that they can use your ADT box to get the stuff going on in your house. Or that they can use OnStar to shut your car down."

Even still, LaBeouf is clearly shown telling the American public that one in five calls are recorded, and that there is potential for more surveillance than we had ever known.
