Quintanilla was a Texas-born singer-songwriter, who was shot and killed by a former employee in 1995. She was 23. Jennifer Lopez portrayed the artist in the 1997 movie, Selena.

"Before there was J. Lo, Shakira or Beyoncé... there was a transformative female artist called.... Selena," Otto Padron, president of Meruelo Media and the official sponsor of the tribute, said in a statement. "Selena is one of the most influential music icons of the 20th century. Her music, style and smile are timeless and now her star will grace our city forever."
