Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Anna Faris broke her silence this week following her split from husband Chris Pratt.

The 40-year-old actress advised fans to embrace their independence on Tuesday's episode of her Anna Faris is Unqualified podcast after announcing her separation from Pratt this month.

"Don't be afraid of the future. You're young. You're in L.A. There's a lot of amazing people out there," Faris told a listener struggling with her boyfriend. "Don't feel afraid to feel your independence if things aren't right."

"I made that mistake, I think, a little bit feeling like, 'I'm checking my relationship off the list,'" she confessed. "The final advice I could give you would be know your worth, know your independence, know that you're young, and there's so many people out there."

"There's so much life experience. I hope you get to live it all," the star added. "Life is too short for you to be in relationships where you're not feeling like this isn't fully right or somebody doesn't have your back or somebody doesn't value you in every way."

Faris thanked fans at the beginning of the episode for "all the love" she's received this month. She and Pratt announced in a Facebook post Aug. 6 that they are legally separating after eight years of marriage.

"Anna and I are sad to announce we are legally separating. We tried hard for a long time, and we're really disappointed," Pratt, who shares 4-year-old son Jack with Faris, wrote.

"Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we want to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward," the actor added. "We still have love for each other, will always cherish our time together and continue to have the deepest respect for one another."

Faris and Pratt met on the set of Take Me Home Tonight in 2007. The actress presently plays Christy Plunkett on the CBS sitcom Mom, which will return for a fifth season in Nov. 2.
