Leslie Jones, Bruno Mars to kick off the 2017 BET Awards

June 24 (UPI) -- Saturday Night Live star Leslie Jones announced via Twitter that pop music icon Bruno Mars will help her kick off the festivities at Sunday's BET Awards.

"I told y'all we would start our wonderful life together, that's why @BrunoMars and I are opening up the 2017 #BETAwards," Jones tweeted Friday.

The comedian is hosting the event where Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Big Sean, DJ Khaled, New Edition Future, Migos, Trey Songz and Tamar Braxton are also slated to perform.

Handing out prizes at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles will be Yara Shahidi, Cardi B, Issa Rae, Jamie Foxx, La La Anthony, Regina Hall, Tiffany Haddish, Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah, Trevor Noah, Robin Thede, Cari Champion and Demetrius Shipp Jr.

Beyoncé goes into the competition with a leading seven nominations. New Edition will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award, while Chance the Rapper will receive the Humanitarian Award presented by Walmart.
