June 15 (UPI) -- Pop singer Adele made a visit to the area where a London high-rise apartment building caught fire to offer her support for the victims.

London-born Adele was spotted with her husband, Simon Knecki, attending a vigil in the area of the Grenfell Tower, where a massive fire killed at least 12 people. At the time of the vigil, the building still had flames that haven't been put out.

"Adele is such a wonderful person for going to Grenfell Tower. Shows that just because someone doesn't tweet, doesn't mean they don't care," an Adele fan wrote on Twitter.

"Adele was going around and hugging everyone she could to comfort them," tweeted another fan.

The massive fire took at least 12 lives and London police believe the death toll will rise.

"This is going to be a long and complex recovery operation and I do anticipate that the number of fatalities will sadly increase beyond those 12," Metropolitan Police Cmdr. Stuart Cundy said. "Sadly, I don't anticipate there will be further survivors."

Dozens of people were taken to nearby hospitals to be treated for injuries from the blaze. Firefighters have been able to rescue at least 65 people.
