May 30 (UPI) -- George Clooney skipped a humanitarian event Sunday ahead of his twins' impending birth.
The 56-year-old actor said in a video at the Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity ceremony in Yerevan, Armenia, that he missed the event because pregnant wife Amal Clooney is due any moment.
"I really would have been [in Yerevan] but if I came there and my wife had twins while I was there, I could never come home," he joked in the clip, according to People.
The Talk had reported in February that Clooney, a member of the Aurora Prize selection committee, is expecting twins with Amal in June. Sources told E! News last week the couple are anxiously awaiting their babies' arrival.
"They're counting down [the days] and pretty much at the edge of their seats," an insider said. "Every day, one of them is like, 'It's going to be today. I can feel it,' and then it doesn't happen."
"Amal is great," the source added. "She's healthy, excited and looking forward to becoming a mother. She is taking it very easy. She's officially on maternity leave now."
Clooney's friend and frequent co-star Julia Roberts said this month on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she's given the actor parenting advice. She added, however, that Clooney and Amal are a "great couple" who don't need guidance.
