Justin Timberlake talks fatherhood, why he left 'N Sync

Feb. 9 (UPI) -- Justin Timberlake has detailed his experience in being a father and why he decided to leave boy band 'N Sync earlier in his career.

"At first it broke me down," the singer said of entering fatherhood with the birth of his son Silas, now 1-years-old with wife Jessica Biel in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

"Those first eight months felt like those old [Ed Sullivan] shows where people are balancing spinning plates on poles -- except if you drop one, they die," he continued.

"You go through your life with your own traumas, big and small, and think, 'It's not that bad, I have a lot to be thankful for, my parents did the best they could,'" he said. "But then you have a child of your own, and suddenly it opens all the floodgates, and you're like, 'No, no, no! That childhood trauma really did [expletive] me up!'"

When asked about his time with 'N Sync and why the group went their separate ways in 2002 while they were still successful, Timberlake stated that he was "growing out of it."

"I felt like I cared more about the music than some of the other people in the group. And I felt like I had other music I wanted to make and that I needed to follow my heart," the 36-year-old said.

'N Sync, consisting of Timberlake, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick and JC Chasez, reunited in August for Chasez's 40th birthday bash.

Timberlake last made headlines when he received a leading seven nominations for Nickelodeon's upcoming 2017 Kids' Choice Awards.
