David Blaine says he lacerated his throat during 2016 bullet-catching stunt

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Famed illusionist David Blaine has revealed he was injured in 2016 when a bullet-catching stunt he was performing went awry.

People magazine said Sunday the 43-year-old magician gave a detailed account on his special Beyond Magic of how he suffered a laceration to the throat while performing the trick live at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

"Time just started to move really slow," Blaine recalled.

"When the bullet struck the cup [in my mouth,] there was a high-pitched ringing in my ears and I felt an impact on the back of my throat. I was sure the bullet went right through my head and that I was dead," he explained. "Suddenly, I became aware of the pain and it brought me back. At that moment I realized that the mouth guard had shattered again, and I was alive."

The incident was a trending topic on social media this weekend after the program aired on Britain's E4 Friday night, TheWrap said Saturday. The program was initially broadcast in the United States on ABC on Nov. 15.
