LOS ANGELES, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Actress Barbara Tarbuck, known for her role in various TV shows and films, including General Hospital, has died at age 74, her family announced.
Her daughter, Jennifer Lane Connolly, a documentary producer, confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter. Tarbuck died Monday in her home in Los Angeles from Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.
Tarbuck was best known for portraying the mother of character Jax Jacks (Ingo Rademacher) on General Hospital in more than 40 episodes from 1996 until 2010.
More recently she starred opposite Jessica Lange as Mother Superior Claudia in five episodes of FX's American Horror Story: Asylum, the second season of the popular horror anthology series.
Other recurring roles include her time on NBC daytime serial Santa Barbara as nun Sister Allegra and as Dr. Randall on CBS soap opera Falcon Crest.
Over the years she also appeared in The Waltons, Dallas, Police Squad!, MASH, Cagney & Lacey, The Golden Girls, Judging Amy, Star Trek: Enterprise, NYPD Blue, Nip/Tuck, Mad Men, Dexter and Glee.
On the big screen, Tarbuck starred in Big Trouble, Curly Sue, The Tie That Binds and Walking Tall. Tarbuck also appeared on Broadway in Brighton Beach Memoirs and The Water Engine/Mr. Happiness. She wrote and starred in her own Los Angeles stage play titled Stopping By.
In addition to her daughter, Tarbuck is survived by her son-in-law, Samuel Chawinga, and two grandsons, Cianan and Cuinn Chawinga
