LOS ANGELES, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Katy Perry was unable to attend a performance in China recently due to a family emergency.

According to CNN, Perry was scheduled to headline a concert alongside One Republic and basketball star Kobe Bryant to help kick-off the country's Singles Day, a 24-hour shopping event lead by China's leading online retailer Alibaba.

Perry who has a large fanbase in China, apologized to her fans on Chinese social media platform Weibo writing, "Regretfully, I must cancel my appearance ... due to a family emergency. I am very sorry to disappoint my fans and look forward to seeing you in China soon."

Soccer star David Beckham is said to have taken her place for the concert.

Starting on Tuesday, Perry has been vocal on Twitter about her disappointment in Donald Trump winning the presidential election.

"Gonna cry my false eyes lashes off tonight," the staunch Hillary Clinton supporter wrote on election night.
