LOS ANGELES, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Rapper Coolio pleaded guilty Wednesday for possession of a concealed weapon after he was arrested in September for having a loaded gun inside his backpack at the Los Angeles International Airport.

Coolio, real name Artis Leon Ivey, was charged with a felony count of possessing a firearm by a felon with two prior convictions by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Keith Schwartz according to The Los Angeles Times.

The 53-year-old was sentenced to three years probation along with 45 days of community service. The felony charge can be reduced to a misdemeanor with good behavior.

"A mistake was made, it was a misunderstanding," Coolio told the court according to E! News. "And I do not condone the use of firearms, legal or illegal. Thanks to the court and the attorneys handling this for me so I can still do the work that I do."

Coolio was arrested after police discovered that a firearm found on another man belonged to the "Gangsta's Paradise" singer after he had boarded a plane.

Previously, Coolio was convicted of carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle in 2001 and in 2009 he was convicted of possessing cocaine after it was found in his luggage at LAX.
