WASHINGTON, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross already have a new musical effort on the docket for 2016 -- the soundtrack to the climate change documentary Before the Flood -- but have two more projects in progress for the year, including making good on a promise for new music from Nine Inch Nails this year.

Reznor and Ross further whetted the appetites of Nine Inch Nails fans for a new album during an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1 radio, saying they've been working on new material for the industrial rock band's next effort.

"That's been three points on a triangle of different energy," Reznor said. "I'm feeling creatively excited. And I've reminded myself -- as I've veered off into technology for a while -- that the act of writing and self-examination that comes from making music really helps me understand who I am again. Things are going good and when we have something that we think is excellent, we will unleash it on the world."

In addition to new NIN, Reznor and Atticus said in the interview that they are working on the soundtrack to Peter Berg's movie about the Boston Marathon bombings.

Reznor teased NIN fans at the end of 2015 with a single, vague tweet: "New NIN coming in 2016. Other stuff, too."

When Reznor announced the soundtrack to Before the Flood on his Instagram page, fans asked if new music from NIN was still on the way, garnering a reminder from him that "2016 is not over yet."

The new NIN album would be the first release from the band since the 2013 album Hesitation Marks.
