LOS ANGELES, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said it's "all systems go" on HBO's film adaptation of their 2004 album, and subsequent Broadway play, American Idiot.

The politically-themed album made it's Broadway debut in 2010 and rumors of a potential film began swirling in 2011 with Tom Hanks hoping to produce it.

Official confirmation of the film came in 2013 with Rolin Jones penning the script.

Armstrong said the film is progressing and he is preparing to reprise his Broadway role as St. Jimmy.

"That's the plan right now, yeah," he said. "We've got a green light from HBO and the script is currently going through a couple of rewrites here and there, so I'm not sure exactly when we're going to start shooting, but it's definitely all systems go at the moment."

The band is currently on tour, promoting the release of their newest album Revolution Radio.
