VICTORIA, British Columbia, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Prince George and sister Princess Charlotte enjoyed a special playdate Thursday in Canada.

Parents Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, looked on as the 3-year-old prince and 16-month-old princess blew bubbles and pet animals at a children's party for military families.

The playdate took place at Government House in Victoria, B.C., where the British royal family have been staying. The BBC reported Charlotte was heard speaking for the first time, saying "pop" at the balloon decorations.

"It was nice to see how down to earth Will and Kate were," guest Lisa Gentile told People magazine. "They were playing with their kids just like any other parents."

"George and Charlotte were just like any other kids," attendee Chris Berti added. "They had the same temperament and the same willingness and openness to meet everyone."

Prince William, Middleton and their children arrived in Canada on Saturday for an eight-day trip and have since visited the Great Bear Rainforest and the Yukon territory. The excursion marks the royals' first official trip as a family of four.

"This is a great opportunity for them to introduce their children to a major realm before things like school start to make these things difficult later on," a spokesperson said at a Buckingham Palace briefing Monday.

Prince William and Middleton previously visited New Zealand and Australia with Prince George. The couple married in 2011 and welcomed Prince George and Princess Charlotte in July 2013 and May 2015, respectively.
