LOS ANGELES, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Brad Pitt has decided not to attend the premiere of his latest film, Voyage of Time, in order to focus on his family.

"Terrence [Malick]'s Voyage of Time is an incredibly beautiful and unique experiential IMAX film for children and families chronicling the birth of time," Pitt said in a statement to E! News about his absence from the film's premiere.

"I'm very grateful to be part of such a fascinating and educational project, but I'm currently focused on my family situation and don't want to distract attention away from this extraordinary film, which I encourage everyone to see," he continued.

Pitt had narrated Voyage of Time and was expected to walk the red carpet for the project Wednesday during its screening at the California Science Center in Los Angeles.

Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt citing irreconcilable differences after they had been together for over a decade. The actress is said to not be seeking spousal support and is requesting sole custody of their children with Pitt getting visitation rights and joint legal custody.

After the divorce filing, TMZ reported Pitt was under investigation for child abuse stemming from an incident on a private jet with the family, in which he was "verbally abusive" and "physical."

The Los Angeles Police Department said it was not investigating Pitt, but the FBI was evaluating the reports.

"The FBI is continuing to gather facts and will evaluate whether an investigation at the federal level will be pursued," the FBI said in a statement.

A source close to Pitt has said, "He takes the matter very seriously and says he did not commit any abuse on his children."

Pitt and Jolie share six children together: 15-year-old Maddox, 12-year-old Pax, 11-year-old Zahara, 10-year-old Shiloh and 8-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. In a statement, Pitt said, " I am very saddened by [the divorce], but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids."
