VICTORIA, British Columbia, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Britain's Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, brought their children Prince George and Princess Charlotte to Canada for the first time this weekend.

The royal couple last visited the country in 2011.

Guided by Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie Gregoire, the Britons spent time in Victoria and Vancouver Saturday and Sunday.

During their travels, they talked with Sheway charity workers and vulnerable mothers overcoming addiction.

Also on the itinerary were meetings with Olympian and Paralympian athletes who recently returned from Rio, Syrian refugees and Canadian first responders, and a stop by the Kitsilano Coast Guard Station.

Kensington Palace documented the weekend on Twitter.

"The Duke and Duchess are looking forward to meeting as many Canadians as possible during #RoyalVisitCanada We can't wait to get started!" the palace tweeted Saturday.

"The Duke and Duchess with Prince George and Princess Charlotte have arrived in Canada to a warm welcome!" read a later post, which captioned a photo of Kate in a blue dress with matching fascinator, carrying 1-year-old Charlotte, who was wearing a white dress. Standing nearby is William, who is holding 3-year-old George's hand. George is wearing a long-sleeved, blue top with a white collar and black shorts.

"The Duke and Duchess pay their respects at the Cenotaph at the BC Parliament Buildings," read another update from the palace.

"The Duke addresses the crowds gathered in Victoria: 'Catherine & I are delighted to be back in Canada,'" said a subsequent tweet. "We are so pleased that George and Charlotte can be with us... beginning their own lifetime of friendship with this wonderful country."

"Thank you so much to the thousands of people who turned out today in Vancouver and everyone who shared their stories with TRH," the final tweet of the weekend said.
