UNIVERSAL CITY , Calif., Aug. 30 (UPI) -- NBC announced that its Friday night supernatural drama series Grimm will not return for a seventh season.

According to Variety, NBC stated in a press release that Season 6 of the show, set to debut on Jan. 6, will be "the final season."

NBC renewed the series starring David Giuntoli, Claire Coffee, Russell Hornsby, Bitsie Tulloch, Silas Weir Mitchell, Reggie Lee, Sasha Roiz and Bree Turner for a 22-episode sixth season in April.

The show's order was later reduced to 13 episodes in July as Mitchell told TV Line that he and other cast members had pondered when the show would end in the past.

"We've been talking about that for three years," he said. "Like, is this the end? We don't know."

As promised, the final season will see Giuntoli's character Nick face off against the villainous Capt. Renard.

"It's a gratitude season, not a funeral season," Giuntoli said.
