PASADENA, Calif., Aug. 23 (UPI) -- James Corden joined Coldplay on stage in Pasadena to sing Prince's hit "Nothing Compares 2 U" in front of 50,000 fans.

The Late Late Show host surprised the crowd Sunday by joining Coldplay on stage after lead singer Chris Martin dubbed Corden Coldplay's "most talented member."

Corden, known for skits like Carpool Karaoke and his vocal talents in Into the Woods, wowed the crowd with his rendition of Prince's song, also made famous by Sinead O'Connor.

"We're here at the Rose Bowl," Corden said before the performance. "I'll be honest, I didn't know how big it was when I said yes."

It seems like Corden's biggest surprise, though, came after the song was over.

Corden, who turned 38 on Monday, was presented with a cake and a rousing rendition of "Happy Birthday," sung by Martin and the audience, which moved Corden to tears.
