Rihanna set to receive MTV's Video Vanguard Award at VMAs

NEW YORK, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Rihanna will be the recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards.

The singer announced on Twitter that she will be accepting the honor at the awards show in New York City on Aug. 28.

"Honored to take the #VMAs stage as your video #VANGUARD award recipient LIVE from NYC on August 28!" Rihanna wrote.

The network announced that Rihanna will also perform at the awards show in addition to accepting its "highest honor."

"The VMAs are coming up fast, and MTV has already decided to bestow one honor on an incredibly deserving artist," MTV wrote. "Rihanna will be the recipient of 2016's Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, joining Michael Jackson, Madonna, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West, and Beyonce on the long list of honorees. She'll also perform at this year's ceremony at Madison Square Garden."

Rihanna was also nominated for four other awards at the ceremony for her song "Work" featuring Drake and her vocals on Calvin Harris' "This Is What You Came For."
