Katy Perry performs 'Rise' and 'Roar', urges voters 'to use your voice' at DNC

PHILADELPHIA, July 29 (UPI) -- Katy Perry got voters and delegates to "Rise" and "Roar" for Hillary Clinton Thursday during the final day of the Democratic National Convention.

Perry who donned a sparkling golden dress, took the stage less than an hour ahead of Clinton's speech and shared a story about her conservative upbringing.

"Both of my parents are pastors, and staunch Republicans," the pop star said.

"I didn't finish high school and unfortunately I don't have a formal education but I do have an open mind and I have a voice. So I'm asking you to have an open mind and to use your voice, because on November 8th, you'll be just as powerful as any NRA lobbyist. You'll have as much say as any billionaire. Or you can just cancel out your weird cousin's vote, if you like. It's not where you come from; it's what you grow into," she continued.

Perry then unleashed energetic renditions of "Rise" and "Roar" which included slightly altered lyrics for the special occasion. "Don't be surprised: she will still rise," Perry sang at the end of the first song before exclaiming "Let's roar for Hillary!"

The performance came following the Democratic National Conventions Wednesday lineup which included Lenny Kravitz rocking out with his single "Let Love Rule" and more than 40 celebrities and Broadway stars including Kristen Bell and Debra Messing who sang in unison "What the World Needs Now is Love."
