Selena Gomez sets record for most liked photo on Instagram

LOS ANGELES, July 13 (UPI) -- Selena Gomez has now set the record for most-liked photo on Instagram, overtaking her ex Justin Bieber.

A photo the singer posted earlier in July has obtained 4.1 million likes along with 90,000 comments and counting. It features Gomez drinking from a coke bottle featuring the lyrics "You're the Spark" from her song "Me & the Rhythm."

"When your lyrics are on the bottle," she captioned the pic. Gomez is seen in the photo wearing a red tank and sporting wavy curls.

Gomez also holds the record for most Instagram followers at 89 million.

Bieber previously held the record for a throwback photo he posted that garnered 3.7 million likes and featured the pop star kissing Gomez in the middle of the ocean while the pair were still a couple. "Feels," Bieber captioned the photo.

In third place is Kendall Jenner who comes close to Bieber's snap with 3.6 million likes for an image that features the model lying down peacefully in a sheer dress with her hair arranged in heart-shaped pieces.

While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter Wednesday, Gomez explained her method to deciding what to post on the photo sharing app. "It comes in a moment when I capture something happening, and I go, 'Oh, that would be great for Instagram. I should post it.' I know it's boring, but that's genuinely what I do," she said.

"It wasn't my goal to be the most followed person."
