REDWOOD CITY, Calif., June 30 (UPI) -- Country music superstar Brad Paisley has launched a GoFundMe campaign and made a $100,000 donation to help the victims of the West Virginia floods.

"Now that the waters are receding it's time to pitch in and help in any way we can. One of the best ways I have found that hopefully will raise the largest amount of money the quickest and get it to the people in need the fastest is through GoFundMe. I have set a goal of $1 million -- this is doable and only a small portion of what is needed. Join me as we help West Virginians together," Paisley said in his appeal Wednesday.

"We couldn't be more pleased that Brad Paisley is working with the GoFundMe community to help victims of the recent devastating floods in West Virginia," GoFundMe CEO Rob Solomon said in a statement. "We hope the online community rallies around Brad's campaign to give comfort and relief to West Virginians in need."

As of Thursday morning, a total of about $220,000 had been raised through the GoFundMe page. Thousands of people were left homeless and 23 died during last week's disaster in the state.
