Daniel Radcliffe on returning as Harry Potter: 'It would depend on the script'

LONDON, June 29 (UPI) -- Daniel Radcliffe hasn't completely ruled out reprising his role as famed wizard Harry Potter as an adult.

"It would depend on the script," the actor said to RadioTimes Tuesday.

"The circumstances would have to be pretty extraordinary. But then I am sure Harrison Ford said that with Han Solo and look what happened there! So I am saying, 'No,' for now but leaving room to backtrack in the future," he continued referencing how Ford was initially reluctant to return as his famous Star Wars character.

Interest in Radcliffe reprising his role in a new Harry Potter film has sprung up after the release of stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child which recently opened in London.

The Cursed Child acts as the official eighth story in the series and is set 19 years after the last chapter, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows. The play picks up after Harry bids farewell to his eldest sons, James Sirius and Albus Severus at Platform Nine and Three-Quarters.

"It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn't much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children," reads the synopsis."While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places."

The play is based on a story written by series creator J.K. Rowling with Jack Throne and John Tiffany, with Throne writing the script. A book version of the script is expected to arrive in stores July 31.

Outside the Cursed Child, another film that takes place in the Wizarding World,Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them starring Eddie Redmayne, is due in theaters Nov. 18.
