STAMFORD, Conn., June 22 (UPI) -- WWE Superstar Roman Reigns has been suspended for 30 days following a wellness policy violation.

"WWE has suspended Joe Anoa`i (Roman Reigns) for 30 days effective immediately for his first violation of the company's talent wellness policy," WWE said in a statement Tuesday.

Reigns commented on the suspension on Twitter noting, "I apologize to my family, friends and fans for my mistake in violating WWE's wellness policy. No excuses. I own it."

According to WWE, the talent wellness program is used to address the health and well-being of its talent and is "administered independently by world renowned medical professionals and includes cardiovascular testing, ImPACTT, testing for brain function, substance abuse and drug testing, annual physicals, and health care referrals."

There is no word yet on how this may affect WWE's plans for its upcoming Battleground event in which Reigns was scheduled to battle his former Shield partners Seth Rollins and current WWE World Heavyweight Champion Dean Ambrose in a triple-threat match for the title.

The match was made on Raw Monday after Reigns lost the belt to Rollins Sunday during Money in the Bank. Ambrose then obtained the championship in surprising fashion from Rollins after cashing in his newly won Money in the Bank contract.

Reigns suspension may also potentially affect the company's plans for its upcoming draft and brand-split on July 19 in which Raw and Smackdown will become separate entities with their own unique rosters of WWE Superstars.
