LOS ANGELES, June 22 (UPI) -- Jim Carrey is about to step into a different kind of role, starring in the new horror flick Aleister Arcane. He will also executive produce the film.

Carrey will work with Eli Roth, who will direct, Entertainment reported.

Steven Spielberg's company, Amblin Entertainment, will develop the film.

Aleister Arcane was first developed for a comic book by Steve Niles in 2004. The story follows a group of children who befriend an old man. The old guy dies, leaving a curse on the town and the kids with the burden of saving their families.

The movie will focus more on local Oklahoma horror television host Aleister Arcane, disliked by parents in the town. Terrifying and supernatural events begin to plague the small town when Arcane is forced off the air.

Variety reports that David Hobeman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville Films will produce the movie with Michael Aguilar.

Paramount picked up the rights to the movie back in 2004, but they eventually lapsed.

Carrey, best known for his comedy roles in Liar, Liar, Bruce Almighty, Ace Ventura, Pet Detective and a long list of others, was seen most recently in Dumb and Dumber To in 2014. His directing credits include Knock Knock, The Green Inferno and two Hostel movies.
