NASHVILLE, May 6 (UPI) -- Dolly Parton is planning something special for her 50th wedding anniversary.

The 70-year-old country star revealed she and husband Carl Dean will renew their vows while discussing the milestone with People magazine. The couple married without fanfare May 30, 1966, and will now celebrate with the ceremony they never had.

"We're going to get married again!" Parton said. "I'll have a beautiful wedding dress, 'cause I didn't have a big, long wedding dress when we got married and we've got a suit for him, so we're going to dress up and take a bunch of pictures."

Parton and Dean plan to sell the photos and donate the proceeds to Imagination Library, the country star's literacy charity. The pomp of their anniversary will be a change for Dean, whom Parton described as "a loner."

"He does not like all the hullabaloo," she admitted before qualifying, "He's always been supportive. He's like a brother and a father and a friend and a husband and a lover -- all of those things to me. I think he's kind of proud that we've been in it this long!"

Parton has been planning the ceremony for years, telling Closer Weekly in 2013 the event will likely take place at her "big old plantation home." She previously discussed her dynamic with Dean with People, calling her husband "a good man."

"They say that opposites attract, and it's true," the star said. "We're completely opposite, but that's what makes it fun. I never know what he's gonna say or do. He's always surprising me."

"He's a deep person, but he has a great and warped sense of humor," she added. "He makes me laugh and entertains me. He's very secure within himself ... When we're together, we have enough things in common that it works."

Parton last released Blue Smoke in 2014 and will release a new album, Pure & Simple, in the summer. The singer will also kick off an accompanying tour June 3 in Greensboro, N.C.
