WASHINGTON, May 4 (UPI) -- Daisy Ridley thanked donors who participated in the Star Wars franchise's charity initiative in a clip celebrating Star Wars Day.

The actress, who plays Rey in Episode VII and the upcoming Episode VIII, was featured alongside three other characters from the Star Wars universe in a clip uploaded Tuesday.

"Each and every one of you that's donated has made a massive difference in someone's life and demonstrated the amazingly generous spirit of the Star Wars fan community," Ridley said, highlighting recent fundraising efforts for Force for Change.

"This Star Wars Day we want to say a huge, heartfelt thank you from everyone from Episode VIII," she concluded. "Happy Star Wars Day and May the fourth be with you."

Ridley also took to social media to celebrate Star Wars Day, highlighting behind-the-scenes images from her Star Wars films. In one image, she and co-star John Boyega hold hands as they walk away from the camera.

"HAPPY STAR WARS DAY Y'ALL! @jboyega_ PEANUTS," the actress wrote in the photo's caption.

Star Wars Day, officially May 4 of every year, began as an unofficial fan holiday during which the pun "May the fourth be with you," was exchanged between enthusiasts. Now, the entire Hollywood franchise has embraced the day, using it as a means to keep fans engaged and enthusiastic about the epic space odyssey's universe.

The official Star Wars website also notes the importance of the month of May to Star Wars fans, noting the first six live-action films were all released in May. The month also includes George Lucas' birthday and has traditionally marked the beginning of Star Wars Weekends at the Walt Disney World Resort.
