NEW YORK, May 3 (UPI) -- Claire Danes wowed fellow Met Gala attendees and the rest of the world when she arrived at the New York City event in a blue ball gown with fiber-optic lighting.

The famed actress, 37, wore her blonde hair back to show off her innovative gown, designed by Zac Posen, Monday night.

Photos of the fiber-optic woven organza gown infiltrated social media, quickly calling widespread attention to the expertly tailored fabric, which when in the dark evokes thoughts of a starry night or galaxy.

Posen teased images and video of the gown on social media throughout the day Monday, even a clip of Danes pacing nervously while the dress gives off a blue-white glow.

Danes was not the only celebrity to don an illuminated gown during this year's Met Gala, the theme of which was titled Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology. Model Karolina Kurkova also wore a light-up dress embellished with floral accents to the event.

An even more innovative aspect of the dress was it's "compassionate" nature: it analyzed emotions in tweets written by those observing the event and lit up in corresponding colors.
