CHICAGO, May 2 (UPI) -- WWE Superstar Enzo Amore suffered a concussion Sunday during his match at WWE Payback.

The head injury occurred during the first match of the night featuring Amore with his tag-team partner Big Cass taking on The Vaudevillians to determine the number one contenders for the WWE Tag Team Championships.

The contest was ended early when Vaudevillian Simon Gotch tried to throw Amore out of the ring when suddenly his face hit the bottom rope causing his head to slam off the mat. Amore was knocked out immediately and laid motionless outside the ring as the referee ended the match and WWE medical personnel quickly arrived.

"Referee stops match. Medical personnel attend to the injured," the company noted on Twitter sharing a replay of the collision.

Amore was put on a stretcher and taken to a local Chicago hospital where he was diagnosed with a concussion. As Payback continued, WWE updated fans on Amore's status and later that night the competitor was reported as being able to stand, talk and move his extremities.

"Breaking @WWEAallday21 has been released from the hospital!" WWE wrote on Twitter alongside a photo of Amore standing outside the emergency room wearing a medical gown. WWE Superstar Kevin Owens visited Amore along with Big Cass and shared an uncaptioned photo of the duo talking inside the hospital.

A decision is expected on Monday Night Raw to determine who will get to face the New Day for the WWE Tag Team Championship.
