NASHVILLE, March 13 (UPI) -- Country singer Rory Feek posted on his blog numerous beautiful and touching photos from his wife Joey's funeral this week.

Joey died March 4 after a long battle with cervical cancer. She was 40.

"On Tuesday we laid my beautiful wife to rest," Rory wrote Saturday, eight days after he last updated his blog with the news of Joey's death.

"In a grove of sassafras trees behind our farmhouse, with friends and family gathered around, we said goodbye to the greatest person I have ever known," he related. "The service started in our barn/concert hall. The last time we were on that stage, was in early October and Joey and I were singing together. But now, a photograph of Joey was in the spotlight... and I was one of many who were there to honor her."

Rory said several loved ones took turns speaking about his cherished spouse and a video celebrating her life was played.

The photos he posted showed mourners at Joey's service, then a horse-drawn carriage transporting her remains in a plain wooden coffin to a small cemetery behind the family's farmhouse.

In some photos, Rory is seen carrying 2-year-old Indiana -- his only child with Joey -- on his shoulders.

"And when most of the guests had gone and the sun was starting to fade, Indy and I took the short walk together into the back field to see her mama one more time," he said. "And we stayed awhile and talked with her. And then we took a deep breath and did what Joey would want us to do. We remembered that she's still with us. She'll always be with us. In our hearts. Forever."
