Big Boss Man to be inducted into WWE Hall of Fame

STAMFORD, Conn., March 8 (UPI) -- WWE has announced that former wrestling star Big Boss Man will be posthumously inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Announced Monday during the company's weekly flagship show Raw, Big Boss Man, real name Ray Traylor Jr., made a name for himself in the WWE as an imposing authority figure who would serve justice in the ring using his signature nightstick and pair of handcuffs in order to defeat his opponents.

"Though he had no trouble muscling opponents around, Boss Man was also deceptively quick and agile for a performer who weighed over 300 pounds, often being heralded as one of WWE's best, and most unique, athletes," the company said in a statement about the former real life prison guard from Cobb County, Georgia.

Big Boss Man notably feuded with WWE Hall of Famers Randy Savage, Koko B. Ware, Shawn Michaels and Hulk Hogan during the early '90s in singles competition and as one half of The Twin Towers alongside his tag team partner Akeem.

Big Boss Man left WWE for WCW before he returned in 1998 during the promotion's much beloved Attitude Era. Big Boss Man then reinvented himself, wearing black riot squad gear and becoming a part of Mr. McMahon's personal security detail as part of the villainous Corporation.

It was around this time that Big Boss Man became a World Tag Team Champion and a four time Hardcore Champion as his storied career winded down. "#BigBossMan was an iconic character & 1 of my favorite people. It's our honor to posthumously induct him to #WWEHOF," WWE COO and current World Heavyweight Champion Triple H wrote on Twitter Monday.

After retiring in 2003, Traylor died in 2004 from a heart attack at the age of 41. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Big Boss Man is the fourth inductee announced for the Hall of Fame class of 2016 following wrestling icon Sting, charismatic ladies man The Godfather, and legendary tag team The Fabulous Freebirds. All inductee's will be honored April 2 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas during WrestleMania week.
