Ellie Goulding nearly drowns in icy lake

LONDON, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Ellie Goulding recently avoided drowning in an icy Norway lake.

The 29-year-old English singer and her friend, photographer Conor McDonnell, recounted the incident Monday on Instagram, telling fans they were forced to escape their car after it fell through into the freezing water.

"Throwback to a few weeks ago when myself and @conormcdphoto nearly ended up in a lake in -30... Note to self don't drive a BV206 over a frozen lake," Goulding captioned a photo of their car sinking in the lake.

"That moment when you're in -25 in the middle of nowhere in Norway in the pitch black and your belt wagon crashes through the ice in the middle of a lake and you have to emergency evacuate through the roof," McDonnell added.

"We were in the front cabin," the photographer explained. "That is pretty much under water in this photo. A few minutes later it was all completely gone under the water and ice for good."

Goulding was spending time in Norway prior to her Delirium world tour, which kicked off Jan. 21 in Hamburg, Germany. The singer will begin the North American leg Apr. 1 in Vancouver, B.C., and bring the venture to a close July 15 in Salacgriva, Latvia.

"I've probably done a thousand shows since my first album, and I realized that with that one, I never thought, 'I wonder how this will sound live?'" she told Entertainment Weekly in August. "Now I can't help but think of the live aspect, and I understand the transition of music from a studio to a performance."

Goulding's Delirium tour is in support of her album of the same name, which dropped in November. The record debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, selling 42,000 copies in its first week, and includes the singles "On My Mind" and "Something in the Way You Move."
