WASILLA, Ala., Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Bristol Palin's ex-fiancé is seeking joint custody of her daughter Sailor.
Dakota Meyer, who ended his engagement to the 25-year-old television personality in May, claims to be the 2-week-old infant's father, and filed for child support and joint custody this week.
"Meyer and Palin had a relationship and were engaged to be married until May 2015," court documents obtained by WKTY read. "Meyer believes that he is the biological father of the minor child."
Palin welcomed Sailor on Dec. 23, and announced the birth on Instagram the next day. Meyer shared a photo of the infant after the news broke, writing, "Best Christmas present ever!! I couldn't be more proud of this little blessing."
Palin's mother, former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, slammed Meyer in a statement to Entertainment Tonight, saying the 27-year-old war veteran and Medal of Honor recipient is merely trying to "save face" by laying claim to the child.
"For many months we have been trying to reach out to Dakota Myers [sic] and he has wanted nothing to do with either Bristol's pregnancy or the baby," she said. "Paramount to the entire Palin family is the health and welfare of Sailor Grace."
Palin and Meyer met on the set of Sarah Palin's reality series Amazing America in 2014, and got engaged in March. The television personality is also mother to 7-year-old son Tripp with ex-fiancé Levi Johnston, whom she split from in March 2009.
