LOS ANGELES, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Jennifer Lawrence has thrown her support behind Planned Parenthood as politicians threaten to defund the non-profit and following the tragic shooting at a clinic in November.

In her cover interview for Glamour's February issue, Lawrence spoke up for the organization calling the attack "so awful."

"It isn't an attack on abortions; it's an attack on women," she says. "Because Planned Parenthood is so much more [than abortion]."

The Hunger Games star also shared how she used Planned Parenthood to gain access to contraception due to her mother's religious beliefs "I wouldn't have been able to get condoms and birth control and all these things I needed as a normal teenager who was growing up in a Jesus house," Lawrence said "And now I am a successful woman who has not had a pregnancy."

"But seriously. What harm comes from supplying people with birth control, condoms, Pap smears, and cancer screenings?" she concluded.

Lawrence, who caused quite a stir in October when she addressed the gender wage gap in Hollywood, admitted that being open about her opinions is not always good for business but that she is going to fight for what she believes in.

"I completely agree when there are actors who say, 'Actors should stay out of politics. We're not politicians,' " she explained. "[And] my business is based on everybody buying tickets and seeing my movie ... It's not smart, business-wise, to be opinionated. But then what's the point in having a voice at all if I'm not going to use it for what I truly believe in?"

Lawrence's comments follow news that she and Amy Schumer have finished their script for a previously announced comedy that will see the actresses play sisters.
