LOS ANGELES, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- LeAnn Rimes recently opened up about her experience as a stepmom. The 33-year-old singer discussed the joys and difficulties of being a stepparent in an interview with Closer U.K. Rimes is stepmother to husband Eddie Cibrian's two sons with his ex-wife, Brandi Glanville, and has faced significant opposition from the reality star.

"I ignore everything that [Brandi] puts up on Twitter," she told the magazine. "This is real life and it's not about Twitter or a reality show. This is our life and I take being a stepmom seriously. I love the boys like they're my own and they live with us half the time."
"There is a sad stigma when it comes to stepmoms and there is kind of this 'wicked stepmom' tag," she added. "There is no handbook. What it comes down to is that the kids are loved and care for."
Rimes is stepmom to 12-year-old Mason and 8-year-old Jake, but has yet to welcome children of her own. She and Cibrian met on the set of Northern Lights in 2009, and started an affair while they were married to Dean Sheremet and Glanville, respectively. They later wed in April 2011.
Rimes released her 11th studio album, Spitfire, in April 2013, and debuted the holiday album Today is Christmas this month. Cibrian, a 42-year-old actor, is best known for playing Cole Deschanel on Sunset Beach, and last portrayed Ross Goodman on Baby Daddy.
